Who can enroll?
Student Membership is available if you are enrolled in a postsecondary program that is preparatory for employment in a position that will make you eligible for Active (educator) membership in the OEA/NEA.
When can I enroll?
Enrollment for the 2021-2022 membership year is offered from the start of the membership year, September 1, through May 31, 2022. If you will be continuing your program into the 2022-2023 membership year, you have the option of requesting membership for BOTH years.
Beginning April 1, 2022, early enrollment applications will be accepted for for the 2022-2023 membership year, and those eligible will also be enrolled for the remainder of the 2021-22 year if not already enrolled. Contact Ryan Dunn, your OEA staff representative, if you have questions.
Membership Year and Benefits Coverage
The membership year runs from September 1 through August 31 of the following year. Benefits of membership, including Employment Educators Liability (EEL) insurance coverage, are effective from the date application is made with payment*, through the end of the membership year. Certain benefits may apply retroactively from the beginning of the membership year.
Benefits of membership do not begin until September 1, even if you enroll before that date.

*The Ohio Education Association (OEA) is waiving dues to become a member of OEA-AE. Although local chapters may include a small local fee to belong to their affiliate, there is no charge to be an OEA-AE member and to receive state and national Aspiring Educator benefits.
